When Uber and Lyft came to Chicago more than a decade ago, driving rideshare was a way to make a solid living while working flexible hours.

But over time, these app-based corporations have increased fares for passengers while decreasing wages for drivers, making record profits for shareholders while the drivers doing the work struggle to make ends meet.
Chicago Gig Alliance, The People’s Lobby’s rideshare organizing campaign, is working with labor partners to win collective bargaining rights and a strong contract at the state level, so that drivers can enjoy the living wage, safety protections, and job security that all workers deserve. Nationally, we coordinate with other rideshare groups to push back on corporations whose business model relies on exploiting gig workers.
