Learn how to keep us safe during our direct actions or other large organized event. Learn to be a Marshal and about our plan for election protection.

Come to Springfield to join us in directly engaging our legislators! We'll provide food, transportation, and all the training you need to help move your elected officials forward on our closing corporate tax loopholes to raise revenue for the public goods we need.

• VIRTUAL training and orientation: TBD
• Expect to be on the road from a designated pick up spot by 6 a.m. (so you'll have to leave home before 6 am) and arrive back at the pick up spot by around 7:30 p.m.
• Plan to have first meetings with legislators starting at 10:00 a.m., last meeting starting at 2:00 p.m., group picture at 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. departure
• What to wear: comfy clothes and shoes… (There will be lots of walking. Wear your TPL t-shirt. If this is your first lobby day, you'll get a t-shirt. You do NOT need to dress up.)
• You'll: bring your own bottled water, coffee and breakfast and coffee to enjoy in the van.
• We'll provide snacks and lunch.

Be part of our strategy to win on MPP. We will be talking about the Make Polluter Pay Coalition Town Hall with Senator Guzman, plan more in district Lobby visits, and talk about other way people can engage in voter protection work and take action for MPP.

Marshals are the folks at nonviolent direct actions who wear neon yellow vests and stand between demonstrators and the crowd, keeping everybody safe, maintaining walkways if necessary, and de-escalating any tension with passersby or counterprotestors. Learn the skills you need to keep fellow protestors safe in the case of midterm election sabotage.

Art can be the thing that separates a successful, disciplined protest with a clear and visible message from a bunch of people yelling on the street. Join the art team in preparing signs, banners, and more to make sure our message is clear at our nonviolent direct actions in the case of midterm election sabotage.

If you're new to this work and/or missed our in-person trainings this month, this virtual training is for you. Learn the skills you need to participate in a direct action in the case of midterm election sabotage. We'll go over how to perform civil disobedience, serve as a marshal, and take roles on jail support and police liaison teams.

We'll cover what you need to know to participate in civil disobedience, marshalling, jail support, serving as a police liaison, working on the art and energy team, or providing care to protestors.

Are you excited to put what you learned at our 10/3 membership meeting into action? Join this training to learn about our direct action roles (civil disobedience, marshal, jail support, police liaison, art, and care) and decide which role is right for you. Learn the skills you need to participate in a direct action in case of election sabotage.

With HR-1 in the horizon there are a lot of uncertainty that the State of IL will face with cuts in our Human Social Services that keeps our community safe and healthy. We can't let austerity be the response from our state government. We can fight back by pushing for progressive revenue at the state level and demanding our elected official to stand with working families and not corporations. We will talk about the struggles that human services organizations are seeing and projecting, then we will talk about possible solution and what you can do to be a part of the solution to keep our community funded, healthy and thriving.  

Healthcare is under attack. We are already seeing the impacts of Trump's Big Ugly Bill, and there are many more to come. It's up to us at the state level to make sure we protect our coverage, and that means to fix what we already know is broken.

We are sick of our healthcare being managed by private interests and profit motives, and we believe there is something we can do about it. Illinois Medicaid has been managed by insurance companies known as MCOs – Managed Care Organizations – for 12 years and the outcomes have been abysmal.

We need your help to change it.

This event is an opportunity for YOU to tell your story. Stories are what move people and legislators into action, and in this workshop you will learn about our strategy to take our healthcare out of the hands of private interests and create a system that works. You will hear how your story will affect our ability to win. You'll have a chance to share in small groups, workshop it, and (if you want) make a plan to share it publicly in a way that will move the needle toward victory.

We are tired of the existing and new challenges, which are making timely, effective care less accessible. This community listening session will explore how changes to Medicaid are impacting care.

We will coordinate transportation  in the morning to travel together to a staging location with allies on the Southwest Side for a powerful action demanding a major polluter pay what they owe for the damage they have caused!

In 2023, Illinois ended cash bail, the discriminatory practice that required people awaiting trial to pay for their freedom. Last year, the Trump administration vowed to target states and jurisdictions that ended cash bail by denying them funding. Learn how Illinois can stand up to the Trump administration by investing in pretrial services.

Join us and The Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice to hear stories from the community and to share your own. Learn how the Pretrial Fairness Act works, what implementation looks like, and other advocacy efforts the Network is engaged in to improve our state's pretrial system. There will be plenty of Q&A time.

Promoting policies that reduce over-incarceration;

Building Power starts by building relationships. Learn the first step to getting people to show up to actions and events through phone calls. Making calls is challenging and can fill one with anxiety. Doing it with others and seeing how people show up because of you hard work is empowering and energizing. Turnout is the first step to power building. Learn the discipline of turnout by confronting the anxiety and finding joy in giving others the opportunity to make a difference with you.

Do you have things you want to talk about? Are you looking for ways to fight back against billionaires who are destroying our communities? Do you care about the environment, healthcare, justice, upcoming elections, or unfair labor practices?
