Background: Every worker in Chicago will be getting a pay raise on July 1st thanks to the hard work of the most progressive city council we have had in decades- but unless we pass this legislation in the first quarter of 2025 Rideshare drivers will be left out in the cold and THAT AIN’T RIGHT.

We will be planning our campaign through these bi-weekly meetings and need workers to come join the fight. This is GO TIME!

Come to Springfield to join us in directly engaging our legislators! We'll provide food, transportation, and all the training you need to help move your elected officials forward on our health care, criminal justice, transit, and workers' rights campaigns.

Lobby Day is February 26th. Expect to be on the road from a designated pick up spot by 6am (so you'll have to leave home before 6 am) and to be home by around 7pm

Vans will be bringing light breakfast (like fruit, bagels and bars). Individuals are also welcome to pack any food for themselves to eat on the road.

Plan to have first meetings with legislators starting at 10:30, last meeting starting at 1:30

One of the things we won when we helped pass the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act in Illinois in 2021 was the creation of the Illinois Climate Bank. A climate bank is a financial institution that uses public money to provide the financing that communities need to transition to cleaner energy sources and protect the climate. Now, it's up to us to make sure that the poor and working class communities that are the most directly impacted by climate change, not greedy corporations, will benefit from the funding opportunities, environmental improvements, and good green jobs that the Illinois Climate Bank will make possible.

At this event, we’ll cover:

✅ What the Illinois Climate Bank is and how it works

✅ How climate funds can fuel our fights for decarceration, healthcare, and workers’ rights

✅ How YOU can help shape how this money is spent in your community

The People’s Lobby has always fought for a world where people—not corporations—decide what our future looks like. This is our chance to make sure that climate solutions are also justice solutions! So join us, and bring your questions, your ideas, and your vision for a better Illinois. Let’s make sure that these funds work for us, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Civil disobedience isn’t the only tactic we’ll use to protect the people and ideals we love during the Trump administration, but it’s an important one. The People’s Lobby has years of experience in successfully organizing against racist, unjust, and harmful systems, and we need everyone to build this muscle in order for us to present a disciplined and effective opposition to the chaos flowing down from the White House. Approaching the coming resistance with discipline will make us effective, keep us as safe as possible, and help prevent us from burning out over the next four years.

Join us on Saturday, February 15th to practice how to interact with authorities when engaging in civil disobedience, learn how this tactic can move a campaign forward, demystify what happens when you get arrested for protesting, and reflect on what risks you're willing to take as we stand up for what our communities need and deserve.

Rideshare drivers united in the Chicago Gig Alliance are making our final push toward the finish line! Join our car caravan on February 12 to help build up the pressure to pass our FairShare Ordinance.

We'll meet in the parking lot at the corner of Roosevelt and Canal to decorate our cars with signs, then proceed to drive together in a caravan around City Hall.

For years, we’ve watched as Uber and Lyft nickel and dime the drivers who make their shareholders rich, refusing to take drivers’ demands for safety protections, fair wages, and transparency seriously. These corporations have undermined worker organizing in city after city by using intimidation tactics and threats to force local governments to accept poor conditions and unlivable pay for the workers who drive rideshare in their city.

That’s not going to work in Chicago. We’re thrilled that Chicago’s minimum wage is going up on July 1, 2025, but that raise doesn’t include rideshare drivers. We can make sure the 85,000 folks who drive rideshare in Chicago also get the raise they deserve by passing our ordinance.

Trump won re-election, in part, by blaming the wrong people for the crises we are all facing in our communities: rents we can't afford to pay, poor jobs, unaffordable or poor health care, inadequate and crumbling public transportation, among others. White nationalists would have us fighting each other for the scraps that corporations leave to us, rather than standing in solidarity to protect each other and build enough people-power to check corporate-power.

Our real problem is the growing and virtually unchecked power of billionaires and CEOs in American capitalism and our political system. Under Trump's second administration, corporations will have more power than ever before, unless we organize to oppose them. But the good news is that we will be able to stop much of his agenda and continue to win at the local and state level.

The first items on Trump's agenda will be to slash taxes for corporations and the rich. Then they attempt to turn Medicare over to private corporations, attempt to gut Medicaid, attempt to gut environmental protections, and attempt mass deportations that will hurt undocumented people and harm our economy. Because much of his agenda will be deeply unpopular with Americans and with corporate elites, so if we organize, we may be able to stop some key pieces of his agenda. We can also continue to bring people together to win local and state investments in our people and communities.
