Join your Bronzeville & South Side neighbors for a Community Conversation Series where we can discuss how various systems in our state, city, neighborhood, block, etc. affect us as people, and how we can navigate the issues in our community.

This month's conversation will focus on how the tensions we see locally in our community, and nationally in our politics, distracts us from the real solutions that can repair the longstanding issues we experience with economic inequality, lack of voter engagement, racial tensions, and more. This conversation also includes a very active political education exercise called "The Chair" where we will unmask who/what systems cause these false divisions, and discuss how coming together by community organizing heals these divides.

Our state’s public transportation system has been in crisis for a long time. The lack of coordination between Metra and Pace schedules makes it almost impossible to figure out when it makes sense to travel. Gaps between trains and buses mean that a rider taking a trip to the city, or even to a different suburb, might have to wait hours between rides. Inadequate public transportation options force us to waste time and money driving everywhere, which pollutes our air.

To make matters worse, the federal money that kept Metra and Pace afloat during Covid is about to run out. In 2026, our already-underfunded public transit network will run out of money unless we win the funding we need to build the world-class public transportation Illinois deserves.

Together, we can build a new transit system that gets all of us where we need to go. But we need your input to do it!

On Saturday, September 7, at 12PM, join The People’s Lobby to discuss how we’re going to rebuild public transportation for Illinois. This is an opportunity to come together with other folks in your neighborhood who believe that we all deserve safe, reliable, and affordable public transportation, and build the people power we need to get it done.

Our state’s public transportation system has been in crisis for a long time. Service cuts to Metra and Pace have made it almost impossible to figure out when it makes sense to travel. Gaps between trains and buses make it so that taking a trip to the city, or even a different suburb, requires hours of waiting between rides. Inadequate public transportation options force us to waste time and money driving everywhere, which pollutes our air.

To make matters worse, the federal money that kept Metra and Pace afloat during Covid is about to run out. In 2026, our already-underfunded public transit network will run out of money unless we get our state legislators to fully fund the world-class public transportation Chicagoland deserves. Together, we can build a new transit system that gets all of us where we need to go. But we need your input to do it!

On Saturday, August 24, at 11:00am, join The People’s Lobby and State Representatives Will Davis and Eva-Dina Delgado to discuss how we’re going to rebuild public transportation for Chicagoland. This is an opportunity to tell your legislators directly what you need, and build the people power we need to get it done.

Chicago IL 60608

Doors open at 9:30, program starts at 10 sharp, potluck starts at 12. If you are able, please bring a dish to share! (There are refrigerators on site to keep our food safe.)

Join us at our June Membership Meeting to get re-grounded in our health care, environmental justice, workers’ rights, and electoral work, build community with folks you might not have seen for a while, and enjoy a nice potluck afterwards.

The location is close to the Orange Line and the Halsted bus, has a parking lot you can use if you drive, has some bike racks in the back, and is wheelchair-accessible.

This meeting will also serve as a preview of the big public meeting we’re planning for October 6 (save the date!).

We’re excited to bring everyone together to celebrate recent wins in person* and make plans for future victories, including living wages and safety for rideshare drivers, a public transit system that is safe, clean, efficient, and fully funded, health care for all, and more.

Do you have a friend or relative who’s been thinking about getting involved in politics, volunteering, or issue work, but feels hopeless in the midst of everything that’s going on globally and nationally (or just isn’t sure where to start)? Bring them to this meeting! We’ll provide an on-ramp for new people to understand not just what it is that The People’s Lobby does, but also how we do it, why we do it, and how we got to where we are now.

*While we’re happy and grateful that vaccines and boosters have made it more possible for most of us to gather in a group than it has been over the past few years, we know that covid isn’t over and that some folks may not want to join this meeting in person for health reasons. Our program is geared toward in-person participation, but we’ll stream the meeting here on our facebook page for folks who don't want to attend in person, and provide masks at the door.
