The Healthcare Task Force is deeply engaged in the fight for equitable healthcare in Illinois. Right now, we’re working to pass key legislation in the Illinois State Legislature that will bring us closer to achieving dignified healthcare for all. Our current focus is on advancing two critical bills:
Improving Network Adequacy and Access to Behavioral Health Services (HB1085/SB55)
Banning Prior Authorizations for Behavioral Health Services
These efforts are crucial to ensuring that everyone in Illinois has access to the care they need, when they need it.
We invite you to join us at our May Healthcare for All Monthly Meeting on May 6th from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. During this meeting, you’ll learn more about:
What our fight for dignified healthcare means for Illinois communities,
The latest updates on our campaign, and
How you can get involved to make a difference.
Together, we’re taking meaningful steps toward a future where everyone has access to the healthcare they deserve. Your voice and energy are essential to this movement!

The Far West Suburban People’s Lobby Team
Zoom Meeting on Tuesday, April 29th at 7:00 p.m.
The next Zoom meeting of the Far West Suburban Peoples Lobby Team is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m. At this meeting, Chris will lead us in a skill share and discussion about base building and base building strategies. We will also discuss The People’s Lobby Two-Part Training Sessions for those interested in learning about Fundamentals of Organization. We will then make plans for the most effective ways to invite people to canvass for the Fair Act and the best way to prepare new canvassers to get signatures and share information about the Fair Act.
We collected 75 signatures in support of the Fair Act at the April, 5th Geneva rally.
The exciting news is that the FAIR Act just passed in the house!
Now our fight continues in the state senate!
We so deeply appreciate everyone's support for the creation of a statewide office of public defense!
Our Far West Suburban team is shifting our first Saturday meetings to going out and getting Fair Act signatures. We will still meet at 10am at Glen Ellyn Public Library but just for a quick training and then deployment.
We plan to go to the French Market in Glen Ellyn on Saturday, April 26, and the Kane County Flea Market on Saturday, May 3 to get signatures for the passage of the Fair Act. Please reply via email to be added to the schedule for either event.
Look forward to seeing you soon!

Join us on Thursday, May 8th at 6:30 PM at the Prisco Center in McCullough Park, 150 W Illinois Ave, Aurora, IL 60506 Center in Aurora to learn about how we can help save public transit and increase mobility in Illinois!
To get there via public transit from the Aurora Transportation Center/Metra take the 802 bus 6 stops to Lake & Illinois and walk about 3 minutes .2 miles to the Prisco Center in McCullough Park.
In 2026, Northeastern Illinois’ public transit agencies—CTA, Metra, and Pace—will face a $770 million fiscal cliff. Without action, public transit across the region will be cut by up to 40%, making public transit something we can’t rely on to get to work, school, or friends and family.
If Metra makes those cuts, busy rail lines like the BSNF will see their weekday runs cut in half and weekend trains limited to once every two hours, according to the latest warning from the Regional Transit Authority. Pace riders would be hit hardest, losing all weekend bus service and potentially leaving millions of people with disabilities without access to reliable transportation across the region.
On Thursday May 8th at 6:30 pm, we will be hosting a public transit listening session in Aurora about the Metropolitan Mobility Authority Act (MMA), a new bill that will merge our long-siloed transit systems and work to fully fund them with $1.5 billion to expand service to the fast, reliable service we need. Together, we can build a world-class public transit system that gets everyone where we need to go.
As Illinois lawmakers look to reform our public transit systems, here are the five key changes we're pushing for.
Sustainable Revenue: If we don't solve our transit funding crisis, we'll see service cuts of up to 40%, according to RTA. We need a permanent revenue solution that keeps our transit running smoothly, and we can make this equitable by raising the corporate income tax to ensure businesses contribute their fair share.
Unified Planning: We want to use the same payment system while tapping into CTA, Metra, and Pace. But we also want our different transit agencies to work together to coordinate service and capital planning, so we don't have to wait for long periods of time while making common transfers.
Rider Representation: We need public transit riders to be better represented on transit agency boards so the people managing transit operations know what it's like to ride it.
Transit Ambassadors: We all want to feel safe while riding public transit. But we can increase safety without adding more police, like how transit ambassador programs are increasing safety in cities like Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Cleveland. Having unarmed civilian employees help passengers, de-escalate potential conflicts, and notify authorities of any emergencies or dangerous activity is how we should move forward.
Accountability: We need to better define metrics for director performance and ridership, so we can hold transit agencies accountable.
This is an opportunity to fight for mobility and build the people power we need to do it.
Thanks, and see you there,
Chris White

Join The People's Lobby on April 15 as we march from 630 W Harrison St. to the South Loop Tesla Dealership at 717 S DesPlaines St. to ask our governor and state legislators: "Which side are you on? Will you stand with the people of Illinois by taxing rich people to invest in our community or the Musk-Trump Administration by forcing cuts to healthcare, education and services?"
In the next two months, through our state budget process, Illinois’ governor and state legislature could close billions of dollars worth of corporate tax loopholes in Illinois. They can help protect health care for millions, save public transportation from a fiscal cliff, and build investments in education and community services that are vital to Illinois’ wellbeing and our future. They can protect and defend Illinoisans from some of the worst impacts of the Musk-Trump Administration’s plan to slash $4 trillion in taxes and gut the federal government’s investments in our people and communities.
With a Democratic supermajority in Springfield, Illinois’ elected leaders who can and should be our champions in this historic moment. Legislators will be working on a budget between now and May 31, 2025. Help us send the message to Illinois’ Democrats that it’s time to choose: Which side are they on? Will they stand up to the oligarchy running our federal government?
April 15, 2025, 3:30 pm CST
The next big action after April 5th, will be Tax Day Actions the afternoon into the evening on April 15th. For a number of reasons, exact details will only be revealed closer to the action.
It's suggested that attendees from the suburbs take Metra and CTA to the action. Or if they are driving that they find free parking on Lake Street near the Ashland, Damen, or California stops. Either way, we will meet at 330 by the elevator for the Clinton Green Line stop. The elevator is across the street from New Line Tavern. This stop is next to Ogilvie Station, around the corner from the North Metra end of Union Station, and a stop away from the free parking at Ashland and Lake We will take some pictures holding Tax The Rich Fund Transit signs and then take CTA together to the bigger action.

Our campaign to win safety protections, transparency, and a significant raise for the 85,000 people who drive rideshare in Chicago is heating up and we need YOUR artistic talent to ensure that our message shows up in public (and makes it onto the news).
Join us at the TPL office from 6 – 8pm on Monday, April 7th to hang out and create signs together. We'll provide art supplies, but if you have paper, paint, markers, etc lying around, feel free to bring them. We'll order food! It will be fun.

We will be planning our campaign through these bi-weekly meetings and need workers to come join the fight. This is GO TIME!

Right now, our therapists are overworked and underpaid, leading to a shortage of care for people experiencing mental health crises. These unfair practices must end—and this bill is a critical step forward.
We need YOUR help to make sure this bill passes! Will you join us in advocating for better mental health care by contacting your state Senator and Representative? All you need to do is send them a letter urging them to support HB1085 and help us ensure more people can access the care they deserve.
We’re organizing a phone bank to make it easy for you to take action. It only takes a few minutes, and your voice can make a big difference in pushing for better care for everyone.
Meeting link will be included in the RSVP confirmation email.

Join us for a strategy conversation and planning session about opportunities to call on our state and local elected officials to be the champions we need at this frightening, historic moment.
If we don’t fight back, the oligarchs' historic wealth and power grab through the Trump Administration could be deadly for our people and deeply harmful for our planet. But the good news is: We can fight back in Illinois! If we can move our state and local elected officials to rise to the occasion, we can protect our families and our neighbors from some of the worst of the oligarchy’s destructive plans.
Our state has a super-majority of Democrats, elected leaders who can and should be our champions in this historic moment. Illinois Democrats can choose — this legislative session — to protect the people of Illinois by standing up in real ways to the oligarchy: closing billions in corporate tax loopholes to protect health care for millions, to save public transportation from a fiscal cliff, and to keep or increase investments in education and community services that are vital to our well-being and our future.
Through the Trump Administration, the oligarchs plan to destroy the New Deal and related gains by stealing health care and retirement security from tens of millions of Americans to get a $4 trillion in tax break! They are deliberately attacking more recent gains against structural racism and sexism, hoping to divide and conquer America’s diverse and multiracial working classes: some examples include firing federal workers in mass, kneecapping federal agencies like the EEOC and the EPA, and attacking efforts by working people to get their bosses and our public institutions to address structural racism, sexism and homophobia. Their attacks on trans people and immigrants not only distract their MAGA base from the wealth and power grab, but are a direct attack on many of the partial wins working people have over the last several decades and as recently as the uprisings following the murder of George Floyd.

We are the rideshare drivers who have been organizing for more than five years to make gig jobs good jobs, and we deserve to choose our own representation! Drivers united in Chicago Gig Alliance have built a coalition with SEIU Local 1 and the Local 701 of the Machinists Union (which includes the Independent Drivers Guild) to ensure that workers will be protected both by a strong union *and* by the legal protections laid out in the Rideshare Living Wage and Safety Ordinance. We demand that Uber respect that choice by extending neutrality to the unions WE choose to represent us, creating a level playing field that gives drivers a voice in our own futures.
On Thursday, March 13, at 10:30am, join us at Uber Headquarters at 401 S. Canal for an all-hands-on-deck press conference where we let Uber know that it's the drivers, not the rideshare corporations, who will determine the future of this industry.

Our state’s public transportation system has been in crisis for a long time. Service cuts to Metra and Pace have made it almost impossible to figure out when it makes sense to travel. Gaps between trains and buses make it so that taking a trip to the city, or even a different suburb, requires hours of waiting between rides.
We're hosting a discussion on how to fix Chicagoland public transit on Wednesday April 9th, at 6:30 PM at the Nichols Branch of the Naperville Public Library (a 15 minute walk from the train.) Come be heard about what needs to change in our public transit system.

Come to a special zoom teach in about making our communities safer by strengthening the public defender systems and getting people more services and less jail time.
The Sheriffs of Kane and DuPage Counties have made public statements alleging that we need to lock people up in order to provide them mental health coverage and social services.
https://www.audacy.com/wbbm780/news/local/kane-county-sheriff-ron-hain-criticizes-safe-t-act
https://www.politico.com/newsletters/illinois-playbook/2025/02/28/the-sheriff-who-wants-to-be-governor-00206652
However, the truth is that these counties have failed to utilize resources that would provide mental health and social service support WITHOUT locking people up.
Also, this legislative session, the state assembly is considering the FAIR Act which would make courts more fair and efficient for everyone by strengthening the public defender system.
We will explain the Success Act and the proposed Fair Act and answer questions. It's on zoom, but please contact us if your church or community group is interested in hosting a watch party.

Uber and Lyft are currently negotiating with the City of Chicago on the details of our FairShare Ordinance. This event is intended to center worker stories in the media and remind everyone who suffers when companies don't pay a living wage- the workers and their families. Background: Every worker in Chicago will be getting a pay raise on July 1st thanks to the hard work of the most progressive city council we have had in decades- but unless we pass this legislation in the first quarter of 2025 Rideshare drivers will be left out in the cold and THAT AIN’T RIGHT.
We will be planning our campaign through these bi-weekly meetings and need workers to come join the fight. This is GO TIME!

One of the things we won when we helped pass the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act in Illinois in 2021 was the creation of the Illinois Climate Bank. A climate bank is a financial institution that uses public money to provide the financing that communities need to transition to cleaner energy sources and protect the climate. Now, it's up to us to make sure that the poor and working class communities that are the most directly impacted by climate change, not greedy corporations, will benefit from the funding opportunities, environmental improvements, and good green jobs that the Illinois Climate Bank will make possible.
At this event, we’ll cover:
✅ What the Illinois Climate Bank is and how it works
✅ How climate funds can fuel our fights for decarceration, healthcare, and workers’ rights
✅ How YOU can help shape how this money is spent in your community
The People’s Lobby has always fought for a world where people—not corporations—decide what our future looks like. This is our chance to make sure that climate solutions are also justice solutions! So join us, and bring your questions, your ideas, and your vision for a better Illinois. Let’s make sure that these funds work for us, not just the wealthy and well-connected.

Civil disobedience isn’t the only tactic we’ll use to protect the people and ideals we love during the Trump administration, but it’s an important one. The People’s Lobby has years of experience in successfully organizing against racist, unjust, and harmful systems, and we need everyone to build this muscle in order for us to present a disciplined and effective opposition to the chaos flowing down from the White House. Approaching the coming resistance with discipline will make us effective, keep us as safe as possible, and help prevent us from burning out over the next four years.
Join us on Saturday, February 15th to practice how to interact with authorities when engaging in civil disobedience, learn how this tactic can move a campaign forward, demystify what happens when you get arrested for protesting, and reflect on what risks you're willing to take as we stand up for what our communities need and deserve.
